The Beautiful Impact of Therapeutic Horseback Riding:

Ricardo’s Story, as told by his mom, Mabel.

Therapeutic horseback riding has had a beautiful and profound impact on my 8-year-old son. Watching his journey has been one of the most meaningful experiences for our family.

When he first started, even putting on his riding helmet was a struggle. It was difficult for him to tolerate wearing it, and we could see how challenging that experience was for him. Today, watching him pick up his helmet and put it on by himself is an incredible accomplishment. It represents so much more than simply putting on a helmet—it shows his growing independence, confidence, cooperation, and trust.

Through his time with the horses, we have also seen him find his voice in ways we never imagined. He has begun to speak more, sing, express his needs, and communicate what he wants and feels. These may seem like small things to some people, but to us, they are extraordinary milestones.

The horses have helped him regulate his emotions and his body. He is calmer, more relaxed, and better able to handle dysregulation. We have noticed that he sleeps better, smiles more often, and seems more connected and aware of everything happening around him.

There is something truly magical about watching him with the horses. He is so present with them. He notices their movements, their sounds, and their presence. It is as if the horses have created a bridge between his world and ours—a place where he feels safe, understood, confident, and free.

The progress we have witnessed has gone far beyond learning to ride. It has touched his communication, emotional regulation, confidence, independence, sleep, awareness, and joy.

We are so grateful for every person who makes therapeutic riding possible and, most of all, for the incredible horses who give so much of themselves.

I truly believe horses are angels. And there is something incredibly beautiful about watching angels riding angels. ❤️🐴

For our family, therapeutic horseback riding is not simply a therapy. It is a place where we get to see our son shine, grow, communicate, and show us everything he is capable of.
