Learn moreOur pediatric physical therapists have an exceptional passion for helping children and young adults with developmental disabilities and developmental delays. With decades of combined experience, our physical therapists draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and techniques to help clients improve mobility, gross motor skills, functional strength, and balance and coordination in fun, creative ways. Therapists build trust and rapport with children in order to help motivate them to achieve new levels of independence with confidence and pride. Our clinicians are experienced with disorders such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, torticollis, global developmental delays, prematurity, and a vast variety of extremely rare diagnoses.
We teach family members activities and exercises that they can enjoy and include within their activities of daily living and typical routines in order to assist in carrying over skills learned in therapy outside of the agency.
Our physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists will perform an evaluation to determine if ACC is an appropriate location for you or your loved one based on the following considerations:
- Level of physical and intellectual disability
- Ability to accommodate client needs based on the current facility equipment and set-up
Physical therapy can help with:
- Developmental milestones of holding the head up, rolling, crawling/creeping, sitting, standing, and walking
- Develop balance and coordination activities for age-appropriate gross motor skills and activities, such as jumping, running, and stair climbing
- Recommendation, training, and use of adaptive equipment and orthotics
- Functional strength and mobility to improve independence with accessing the home and community environments

Our Approach
OASUS offers specialized therapy options
“The OASUS is freedom. It’s the closest to walking that my son will be able to experience – and I’m so grateful.”
— Dawn, mother
Achievement Centers for Children is one of the only therapy sites in the Cleveland area to offer the Open Area Support System (OASUS) by Enliten.
- This body weight support system allows individuals who may not be able to fully stand or support their own body weight to be in an upright position and to move freely.
- ACC’s Therapy team uses the OASUS to teach clients how to stand or walk – and for some, it has enabled them to be on their feet and taking steps for the first time in their lives.
