Our occupational therapists help children and young adults with physical, developmental or behavioral disabilities become more successful in their ability to perform meaningful activities of daily life. They help children function as independently as possible in the three basic areas that typically occupy a child’s time – self-care, play/leisure, and work-related skills (such as those used in school).

Our therapists mainly use play-based methods in our child-centered environment which includes toys, musical instruments, art supplies, and much more. Therapists get to know your child, their abilities, challenges, and interests, which assists them in finding creative techniques and fun activities that motivate children to reach their goals.

Because most of a child’s learning takes place at home and in school, we teach family members therapeutic activities they can enjoy with their child outside of the agency in order to maintain and continue to progress skills at home.

Our physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists will perform an evaluation to determine if ACC is an appropriate location for you or your loved one based on the following considerations:

  • Level of physical and intellectual disability
  • Ability to accommodate client needs based on the current facility equipment and set-up

Occupational therapy can help with:

  • Self-care skills including feeding, dressing, and grooming
  • Hand strengthening and coordination skills required for activities such as cutting with scissors, coloring and writing, buttoning, and using feeding utensils
  • Recommendation, training, and use of adaptive equipment
  • Visual motor and handwriting skills

Our Approach

Client-Centered

At Achievement Centers for Children, we utilize a client-centered approach for every child by looking at the whole body and every body system that may affect their outcomes.

Adaptive Strategies

Our therapists utilize a variety of treatment strategies and are always adapting to the specific needs of the individual. These strategies include, but are not limited to, Neuro Developmental Treatment, manual therapy techniques, dynamic and kinesio taping, Total Motion Release, play based therapy, body weight support systems, and many more.

Collaborative Staff

Our physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists work very closely with one another with frequent communication and consultation to ensure carryover between disciplines. When appropriate, our therapists are skilled at working together in order to maximize the treatment time and benefits to the individual.
