Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH)

Ahnna is now able to implement learned strategies in real-life situations, such as having “good listening ears” at school and calming herself through a deep breathing technique called “Rainbow Breath.”– Mia, ECMH Counselor

Our Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) program provides home-based, relationship-focused
counseling and consultation services for one of our most vulnerable populations. Our highly trained
staff offer comprehensive mental health assessments and interdisciplinary treatment planning for
children ages birth to age six who may be experiencing difficulties in their social/emotional
development.

Identifying and addressing social/emotional concerns in the very youngest children who are at risk
provides an opportunity for intervention during critical phases of child and family development.
Through psychoeducation, modeling, play therapy, and skill development, we provide parents and
children with the tools they need to help their child manage their emotions and develop positive
relationships with others.

Our Approach

We meet families where they are at

Our ECMH consultants meet the family where they are at, both literally and figuratively. It is essential when working with a young child who is experiencing social and emotional challenges to observe their natural environment, relationships, and day-to-day routine.

We have a more holistic view

By meeting the family at home, school or elsewhere in the community, our consultant can witness regulation concerns, developmental delays, difficulties in transitioning, parenting styles, socialization with peers and family members and so much more.

We create reflective goals

With this firsthand knowledge and further information from parents, our consultants create goals and outcomes to reflect the needs and current concerns. Plans are then created to address these needs and work toward goals. Our consultants meet families weekly, demonstrating interventions and modeling age appropriate behaviors, and providing families with the tools they need to help their child achieve plan goals.
